Bawn Free

Wales & West Championship - Brynmawr. South Wales

Derek Bawn won the opening round of the 2016 Wales & West Hare & Hounds Championship at Brynmawr on Sunday 10th April. A new club and a new venue attracted a class field of 66 riders. The Spring weather was bright but a cold wind tested the tapes on the open moorland venue. The 3 hour race started at 11.00am and  Matthew Jones took the holeshot ahead of Sonny Parker and Kalem Hicks of the Royal Logistics Corps. The 2 mile course was gnarly - scarred by with relics of the areas industrial past. Derek Bawn and Jordan Ridgway worked their way to the front through the slag heaps and rocky gullies. Brad Williams crashed and lost a lap replacing his clutch lever. By the half way mark Derek Bawn had established a good lead which he held to take the win. Jordan Rigdway was runner up and Kalem Hicks was 3rd. Matthew "not so wimpy" Jones was 4th and Brad Williams worked his back back to 5th. Luke Tarr in 9th was the best Clubman and Steve Biddle (10th) won the Vets - Photos - Results Overall - Class
